A SEPA direct debit can be reversed within eight weeks of the debit date without giving any reason if no valid mandate existed or the charge was not executed correctly (section 675f of the German Civil Code). The refund claim goes to your bank; at the same time you should ask the payee in writing to prove the claim and revoke the mandate. Note: reversals made without good cause are simply presented again — so object only to charges that are genuinely unjustified.
